Eczema is a skin condition that can occur in any age group.
The most common type seen in infancy is atopic dermatitis, i.e. allergic eczema.
What causes eczema in babies?
- Some foods such as eggs and wheat are among the foods that cause eczema.
- Materials that irritate the skin (cheap snap fasteners and hooks made of NICKEL) cause eczema in babies.
- For babies with an allergic constitution, pets and house dust aggravate eczema.
- Although rare, genetic factors are also thought to cause eczema in babies.
- Eczema can also be triggered by stress and emotional events.
- Eczema can also be seen in newborn babies.
- Eczema usually goes away by the age of 5.
How can eczema be recognized in babies?
Baby eczema shows itself with;
- Itchy, dry and scaly skin. These symptoms mostly appear on the cheeks and on the skin around the elbows and knees, and can spread to the whole body.
- Transparent blisters form under the skin.
- Pimples caused by eczema, which leads to crusting, rashes and redness on your baby’s skin, may bleed.
What the baby is allergic to should be identified, and this process should be followed by a doctor.
